1:39 pm - Burning Rangers
I finally found the memory cart for my Sega Saturn, and thus can now continue to play some of the games that I've downloaded for it.

And I must say that Burning Rangers is a very overrated game, I can't believe that so many people were fucking praising this title back when it came out. You follow the directions on what to do when you hear the whistling noise that indicates that an explosion is about to happen, and you still fucking die, over and over again. And this is just on the first level, which I cannot get past. It makes Super Mario Galaxy seem like an easy game. The graphics are most of the reason, the polygons are so fucking sloppy, you're lucky to be able to tell which blob your main character is.

The pretentious pricks at Sonic Team needed to stick to what they were named after, Sonic the Hedgehog games, of which the Saturn never did receive a proper title.

Back to Super Mario Galaxy and SNES Super Metroid.

10:18 pm - OS
Choosing what operating system to run on a computer on any particular day, is like asking yourself "How much do I want to be punished just for using my fucking computer today?"

That was quite a shock. Didn't see that coming. Not sure if you'll even read this, but...

I thought you just understood everything, I'm sorry. I took for granted that you were an intelligent person, and I guess I thought you just 'got it', but I suppose I should have remembered that things are never quite so simple when it comes to love and sex and the like, especially when it comes to a woman's feelings.

First off, sex wasn't "what we wanted", meaning, that was never some sort of secret plan or whatever. Look, I have a swinger mentality, anytime anyone new (and adult) comes around our house, there's always a voice inside that says "possibility?", but I approach things with an open mind, and if an opportunity presents itself, I follow it cautiously, and see where it goes. If the proper situation or vibe or whatever never materializes, that's fine too, the person is still a friend, and I don't consider them any less of a friend. I invited you to our home, because I thought you were a cool person. I didn't sit around and plot or scheme about getting you in bed, I just recognized opportunities.

And after it happened, the truth is, I wanted you again. And again. And again. And so on and so forth. Regina is a bit different. It's nothing about not finding you attractive, nothing like that at all. She enjoyed things for the most part, but even before that night I had noticed a gradual decline in her interest in playing around with other people. She would never tell me straight out if she was going to want to play again, so I always had to "wait and see". As weeks went by, I began to sense the inevitable more and more, that she didn't want to play around like that anymore, but I didn't want to believe it. Then we got into the big fight sometime in April, and just as I had told you in an email at the time, it really had nothing whatsoever to do with swinging. However, after that, she decided that we don't need to swing anymore, with anyone, just as a precaution so as to not have anything happen that has potential to end our marriage. She was especially afraid of me becoming interested in someone else, and leaving.

I see things differently than she does, when it comes to swinging. I think it's very possible to have an open-style marriage, and not have to worry about losing your significant other to someone else. People do it successfully all the time. Have your cake and eat it to, Utopia, etc.. Although there are various reasons why Regina doesn't see it that way, the core reason, is because she's not all that bright, and therefore usually prefers drama and paranoia to reason. I'm sure you could see that. I'd even go as far as to calling her a little slow. I'm not claiming that I'm even close to being a genius, but she's certainly not my intellectual match. Most people can see that. I see it. I live with it. In 1990, I was a stupid drunk, and latched on to the first girl that was willing to stick with me, and got her pregnant. Hindsight is always 20/20. But, this isn't about whining over the mistakes I made. Regardless of all the negative, I choose to stick around, and raise my family. Despite her shortcomings in various departments (I could write a book, but it is *my* problem, no one elses), I still love Regina, and therefore if she says that we have to stop swinging... I guess we have to stop, no matter how much I don't want to. Oh, I could keep going on my own I suppose, but I don't like to sneak around like that, it makes too much of a mess. Besides, there are more important things in life to tend to. Business before pleasure, so to speak. I wish our timing would have been better.

So there you have it. I always wondered whether or not I should have explained things, but as I said before, I mistakenly thought you just got it. I was wrong. I'm sorry.

I had hoped that we could continue being friends despite the sex part being over, I've always thought very highly of you, and felt very privileged having you as a friend. From the wording of the part of your post directed towards me, I'm not really sure what to think. I'm not sure if it was just written out of anger or what, but from the sounds of it, we're only interesting if we're putting out, and other than that, we're not worth your time? If it was just something to throw as an insult in relation to how your feelings were hurt, I understand. But if you really mean it, well, that really sucks. Please refrain from explaining to me how much of a loser, scumbag, drunk, druggie, pothead, dirtball, idiot, liberal, dumbass, etc. I am, and how that's why someone like you can't hang with the likes of us. I really don't want to hear it, my feelings are hurt enough over what's been said already, along with the thought of you thinking so lowly of me that you don't even want me to communicate with you via email. If you feel so strongly about it, you might as well delete me from your friends list on here and be done with it. I'm sorry for wasting your time.

2:18 pm - Windows Vista, revisited
So I finally got Windows Vista installed on my work machine, and have been using it for about 3 weeks now.

For those curious, the problem with being unable to install it previously, was due to the boot flag not being set correctly on the XP partition. It was a clean install, although I did successfully move over all of my junk using their transfer wizard thingy.

so what's it like? )

12:06 pm - Windows Vista
First, just let me say, Windows Vista sucks. At least I think it might, anyway, if I actually got to try the damned thing.

Got it from Dell's Express Upgrade thing. The machine arrived in January with Windows XP, with a coupon for a free $10 upgrade to Vista. We finally got the Vista DVD sometime last week, as it was on my desk when I came in to work this morning.

computer geekery follows, you've been warned )

2:49 pm - I need a hobby
So I'm finally starting to take notice how I really don't do a hell of a lot anymore aside from working, sleeping, eating, yelling at kids, partying, and teh seckz. Sure, there's probably a few things that need done around the house, but nothing too pressing, or it's things that I don't quite have the know-how to accomplish, the ambition to just tear into and learn, or the money.

I'm thinking, maybe this is why I sometimes have trouble sleeping. I didn't blog about it, but on at least 3 occasions in a 2-week period, I was unable to sleep, on work-nights. It boggled my mind, since there wasn't anything I was particularly worried about. At first, I blamed it on too much caffeine, or napping too long in the evenings. But the last two times, that didn't apply, since I had been careful not to drink tea, or nap. After reading around some on the subject, and listening to others, I've come to the conclusion that it's due to inactivity. I'm fucking bored. And I've been incredibly and embarrassingly lazy for quite some time as well.

So as a stopgap measure to help out the problem, I go over my hobbies, and immediately start to realize, that everything that I list as a hobby, are things that I haven't been active in for quite a long time. It's kind of like a list that you keep in your head, as answers to questions that you may be asked every so often, not remembering to *update* the said lists as life changes.

so I felt it was time to do something )

7:44 pm - I'm a loser!
I just got my ass handed to me at Monopoly.

...by a 9-year-old.

Well, to be fair, my wife took over when it came time for our daughter to take her bath. But it wouldn't have mattered, she had the game more or less set up to conquer by the time my wife took over.

I think it's the first time in a long, long time that I've ever played by the official rules, with none of the Free Parking Bonus junk thrown in. It's only been in recent years that I figured out that that just makes an already-long game take even longer. About the only official rule we didn't stick to, was the auctioning of properties when the person who landed on it decides not to buy it. Aside from various video-game versions I've played over the years, I don't think I've ever played Monopoly with the auctioning thing. I do see, though, how it could make the game more interesting.

How do you play Monopoly?

9:33 pm - The weather today
The weather today, was quite awesome. And I'm not being sarcastic.

It was drizzly, warmish, and dreary. There's just something about this kind of weather that I love. The soft, calm, steady drizzle. The thick smell of autumn in the air. The temperature not being too warm or too cold, yet cool enough to wear a jacket comfortably. The colors; dull, drab, yet soothing.

I love it. It's... comfortable. I could handle many more days like this.

10:52 am - State of the Band
In a nutshell, the band thing is going fine. Probably about 2 months away from playing out, providing our practice schedule gets... back on schedule.

There are annoyances. Nothing that I feel the need to suddenly flip out about at a practice and cause lots of drama, nor bring up with any member of the band, but annoyances nonetheless.

10:05 am - The Scary Signs
I made an... um... 'important' discovery today, regarding the "radar signs".

For those not in the know, we have these portable signs along selected places on the highways around here, that have some sort of radar gun attached to them. They prominently display how fast you are going as you approach them.
